Hello and Welcome!

I am a therapist serving the Tees Valley region and the surrounding areas, including North Yorkshire. I am based in Darlington and Stockton and am able to offer in person, online and outdoor therapy. I have experience in supporting individuals struggling with numerous issues including, anxiety, depression, grief, sexual identity, suicidal ideation, cultural challenges, eating disorders/disordered eating and relationship problems. I work in a predominantly Person-Centred way meaning I help clients explore their own issues, feelings and beliefs in a non-judgemental and safe space. I aim to create an environment that fosters self-awareness, confidence and independence in helping individuals make positive life changes.

Qualifications and experience

My academic qualifications include studying for a BSc (Hons) in Nutrition and Health Sciences and an MSc Health Sciences (Public Health Pathway) at Teesside University. I then went on to complete a PhD in Childhood Nutrition, graduating from the Faculty of Social Sciences at Durham University. I began my counselling training in 2000, completing level 2 and 3 followed by an FdA through Teesside University. I continue to access regular CPD and additional training to support my practice.

I have experience of working with young adults, supporting students with a variety of issues to help them navigate life and remain in higher education. Additionally, I have experience of working in a hospice setting for those who have been bereaved which I continue to do on a voluntary basis.

I also have over 20 years of experience working in academia and hold a part-time post as a Research Associate at Teesside University. I currently work on a number of projects and am incredibly passionate about working with local communities to improve health and wellbeing. I also supervise final year students providing academic and research support.

Contact

I appreciate that starting therapy can be daunting and it’s important to choose a therapist who you feel is right for you. With this in mind, I encourage you to get in touch (via email or telephone) where we can chat and explore your current situation and discuss what you would like to achieve in therapy. This will also provide an opportunity to ask any question you might have and decide if you would like to work with me prior to booking an appointment.
