A duoethnographic project researching body image - we are currently working on a paper.


Joanna's Book - Autoethnography in Therapy: Exploring Therapists Emotions in Work with Self-Injury.
Joanna has just secured a publishing contract with Routledge to disseminate her PhD Thesis - An Autoethnograhic study of therapists emotional reactions to working with and studying the topic of self-injury.
Joanna's Theory
On the back of Joanna's PhD Study, Joanna is developing her theory 'The Arc of resistance.' A model which supports therapists and supervisors into accepting emotional reactions when working with clients who self-injure.


Claire's Research
Claire has extensive experience working on public health and wellbeing related projects and evaluations. She has expertise in qualitative research methods and frequently engages in and is passionate about research which aims to better meet the needs of vulnerable people and communities. She is involved in numerous projects as part of her role as a Research Associate within the School of Health and Life Sciences at Teesside University and often works with colleagues across other academic institutions. Claire is keen to expand her research and skills within the field of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
Claire's Work
Claire's research centres around projects which look at addressing food insecurity and inequalities to improve health, mental health and wellbeing. She is also involved in research which looks at making improvements to the environment in which we live, such as monitoring access to unhealthy foods and takeaways, exploring the use of food taxation to improve diet, addressing unhealthy advertising and increasing the quality of school food. She frequently works alongside local people across Middlesbrough and The Tees Valley to create positive and healthy changes. Joanna's NIHR research - SI & CYP Strand
Joanna is working closely with The University of Central Lancashire to develop research into self-injury and children and young people.
Joanna's Research: Therapists Emotional Reactions to working with clients who self-injure.
This research supports my PhD research, I am studying therapists emotional reactions to clients who self-injure. This is an Interpretative Research. I am looking for participants - if you would like to take part please get in touch.
